Backgrounds - simple abstract

I painted a dahlia which bloomed at home. While the flowers hold focus, the background has been done with care to not interfere with the subject.
The blur effect was used here for the leaves to show that they belong in the background. I washed the intended area with water and let it dry halfway before painting the leaves. This makes sure that we can make out the shape but not details (like a silhouette) .
This way works better than wet on wet as using this we can retain the basic shape of the object that we want to blur.
The rest of the area was painted with a color from the color scheme used for this painting as I did not want to leave any white area.

  1. The Dahlia looks colorful with the different colors, very beautiful. The watery background and the dissolving look of the leaves.
