I used a reference to paint this. I used cobalt blue, crimson lake, vermilion and gamboge hue for the sky.
The painting had to be done in layers. First was a graded wash of crimson and yellow (gamboge). Once this layer dried I painted the vermilion part to leave the highlight in yellow.
Next was the dark clouds. The clouds were done using wet on wet technique. I coated the area where I wanted this effect with some water first then, I put dots of cobalt blue with a brush. As the paper was already wet these dots spread to give the effect of clouds like this.
The foggy effect was produced using a tissue paper to absorb the paint in that area while the colors were still wet.
