Capturing the effect of apt lighting and shadows generates interest in the subject. As it can be seen in this particular painting, the goal is to make the viewer feel as if they are looking into a well lit area of the bamboo farm from a well shaded one.
The shades of green used are light, sombre and dark. The light green is used to represent the areas well exposed to the sunlight. The dark and sombre greens are used to represent the heavily shadowed and partially exposed to sunlight areas of the bamboo farm .
I captured the strong sunlight by balancing the white and yellow of this bush and bright upper region of the tree;
and using crisp and defined shadows.
The color of the sky and the light source often dictates the nature of shadows. Clear skies like in this painting are often responsible for cool source of light and hence create warm shadows.
I'm planning on doing a few more posts on 'light play' sometime in the future, if you have any particular requests please do let me know!
And if you like this post please do share! Thank you!
